It is Day 2 of the largest sporting event in Asia, the 17th Asian Games (Asiad) which is being held in Incheon, South Korea. The Korean nationals have won medals for shooting, fencing, and even wushu. As of now Korea is ranked 1st place in the entire tournament with 7 gold medals along with 5 silver and bronze medals, followed by China which currently has 6 gold medals. Yesterday, Korean President Geun-hye Park had a conference with former Japanese Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori who had visited Korea to be at the opening ceremony for the 17th Asian Games. During the meeting, former minister Mori delivered a letter from Japan’s current prime minister, Shinjo Abe written directly to the president of Korea. Today at the 27th United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) held in Geneva, Switzerland, the United Nations gave a report with a total of 268 proposals for North Korea. These proposals are all ways in which the North Korean government could improve human rights for its citizens. Earlier this year, all of South Korea fell into shock after hearing about the death of PFC “Private Yoon”, a medic for the Republic of Korea Army 28th Regiment at the hands of his fellow soldiers he shared quarters with. In light of the abuse and violence happening within the armed forces, the South Korean government made moves to make changes to the military system which they hoped would loosen tensions among the soldiers.
