A prayer meeting for the safe return of Reverend Hyeon Soo Lim took place on July 12 at the Los Angeles office of Korea Campus Crusade for Christ (KCCC). Those present at the gathering prayed for Reverend Lim, his family, and Light Presbyterian Church in Toronto. A letter to be sent to the United Nations was also presented at the meeting. Reverend Lim is currently detained in North Korea after his recent visit in January 31, and he has not been heard from since.READ MORE

Leaders of the Korean immigrant church community gathered on Wednesday at a hotel in Los Angeles for a discussion on how the community should respond to the Supreme Court’s ruling on same-sex marriages. Talks of holding hands with the greater community and other ethnic groups, and steps to prevent churches from facing litigation were brought up. The gathering was brought together by Jung Myung Song, the CEO of Gospel Broadcasting Company, one of the largest Korean Christian radio stations in Los Angeles.READ MORE

A prayer meeting on behalf of Reverend Hyeon Soo Lim, the Korean Canadian senior pastor of Light Presbyterian Church who has been detained in North Korea, will be taking place at Korea Campus Crusade (KCCC)’s Los Angeles office on July 12 at 5 P.M. KCCC hosted a prayer meeting for Lim previously in mid-April, which was an intimate gathering of some 30 people part of the KCCC alumni organization, and friends of Reverend Lim.READ MORE

Korean American Family Services is awaiting those who will provide the gifts of new backpacks and school supplies to children of foster families. The organization that has embraced many of the hurts in Korean immigrant families by addressing issues such as domestic violence has hosted a backpack drive since 2014. A Korean Christian TV broadcasting company called CTS America hosted its fifth annual fundraising concert on Saturday, 7:30 PM at Bethel Korean Church in Irvine, CA. A unique aspect of the concert, called, the "Hope-Giving Concert," is that all of the performers participate in the concert free of charge, allowing all of the funds to go directly to the community and mission work.READ MORE

Good Neighbors has been sending material and medical relief aid to Nepal, which recently suffered a devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake. The Good Neighbors office in Nepal was closest to the epicenter, and faced significant damages as a result, but the relief organization was able to provide efficient aid to villages in the mountainous regions that have been difficult to reach due to its close proximity to these villages.READ MORE

Sa-Rang Community Church, located in Anaheim, CA, celebrated its 27th anniversary on April 19 as 'Compassion Sunday,' during which representatives from Compassion International were invited, and congregants were encouraged to participate in sponsoring a child in a third world country. The Los Angeles Riots, which took place on April 29, 1992, was a portion of the city's history that brought about much pain to the Koreatown community. The Korean American Coalition (KAC), which not only is involved in Korean American community organizing but also founded the 4.29 Dispute Resolution Center with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), has offered a scholarship contest each year based on the 4.29 Riots.
