Vision Care Service, a Korean non-profit, held its fifth 'Open Eye Camp of Love' in Koreatown, Los Angeles, during which 107 Koreans received free eye-related services. Patients who have cataracts but lack resources to receive treatment were able to receive services at the camp.
The camp took place on Saturday at the Olympic office location of Open Bank. Eye medical experts as well as volunteers from Young Nak Presbyterian Church and other Korean non-profit groups were present.
Vision Care has offered free eye check ups and cataract surgeries in Koreatown since 2012, and has offered treatment to some 500 individuals and provided surgeries for some 40 individuals since. Vision Care has hosted the 'Open Eye Camp of Love' on an annual basis, but with the support of Open Bank, this fifth camp is the second that took place this year, following the camp that took place in May.
"We've been doing this camp for four years now already, but there are still many Koreans that re unable to receive simple eye check ups due to a lack of insurance," said Simon Park, the director of Vision Care's western regional office. "We're planning to continue hosting these eye camps."
Meanwhile, Vision Care also hosted an awards ceremony at the same location for its first art contest, during which Ga-Yeon Park, a student from Fairfax High School, won first place, and 22 other students were given awards. The artwork will be on display for a week.
