Two former senior leaders of the Khmer Rouge reign were found guilty on Thursday of crimes against humanity in Cambodia in the 1970s. Khieu Samphan, 83, and Nuon Chea, 88, were both sentenced to life in prison. Their lawyers said that both will appeal.READ MORE

The three judges of the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati are hearing a case today deciding whether the same-sex marriage bans of Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee are unconstitutional. Judges Jeffrey Sutton and Deborah Cook are Republican appointees, while Judge Martha Craig Daughtrey is a Democratic judge. A two-star U.S. general had been killed in an attack led by “an individual believed to be an Afghan soldier,” who “fired into a group of coalition troops at Marshal Fahim National Defense University in Kabul,” according to a statement from Rear Admiral John Kirby, the Pentagon press secretary. There are believed to be up to 15 casualties as a result of the attack. The attacker was killed by other Afghan soldiers, and his identity is, as of yet, unknown.READ MORE

Following Dr. Kent Brantly’s return, Nancy Writebol arrived in the U.S. early on Tuesday, and will also be treated at a special isolated unit in Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. In an MSNBC interview on Monday, Dr. Bruce Johnson, the president of SIM USA, said that Writebol has been showing signs of improvement. “She received the second of three doses of the experimental medicine, and she’s up and walking,” he said. His family received news on Thursday that he will be returned to a labor camp despite his failing health.
