On Sunday, North Korea sentenced American citizen Matthew Todd Miller to 6 years of hard labor. 24-year-old Miller was detained for several months in North Korea and his sentence was given in the Supreme Court, according to the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA). The court charged Miller with an espionage related crime, according to the Associated Press, and sentenced him to “labor re-education,” according to KCNA.READ MORE

The atheist group American Humanitarian Association (AHA) began a new campaign on Monday promoting a boycott of the Pledge of Allegiance. AHA’s newest campaign is called “Don’t Say the Pledge.” The organization claims that the phrase “under God” is unpatriotic and should be taken out of the pledge. Until the removal of the phrase, AHA encourages individuals to not participate in the pledge of allegiance until the phrase is gone. READ MORE

Today Amnesty International released a report, named Attitude adjustment- 100 days under Martial Law, detailing the status of Thailand’s human rights during the past three months. After the military coup in May, Thailand’s military has been in control of the government. Amnesty International’s report “is the first comprehensive investigation into Thailand’s human rights situation since the military imposed Martial Law on 20 May 2014 and seized power two days later,” according to the organization. Copious amounts of clear human rights violations committed by Thailand’s military government, called the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), are documented in the report.READ MORE
