A predominantly white conservative congregation of about 850 members became the first religious organization to sue the capitol over pandemic restrictions. The capitol's religious vanguard against government mandate is a 142-year-old church named Capitol Hill Baptist Church. The church held a poll at member's meeting concerning the pursuit of litigation. The results came out to be 402 in favor and 35 against. The lawsuit argued their First Amendment rights and focused largely on the city's Phase 2 guidelines. Phase 2 guidelines allow houses of worship to gather up to 100 people or up to 50 % of the building's capacity, whichever is fewer. The D.C. mayor's office did not enforce any restrictions on outdoor gatherings of more than 50 people, including protests which attracted hundreds and hundreds of people.READ MORE

Many churches are turning to live streams and outdoor meetings to maintain social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions that have been preventing congregants from gathering in churches. St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Provo has transitioned from virtual services to in-person services earlier than any other church. Rev. Susan Toone of St. Mary's Episcopal Church confessed that their virtual services were only initiated only during the start of COVID-19 pandemic. Ever since they noticed other businesses opening up, the church has been holding outdoor services every other week as the weather permits. Kroger is facing a lawsuit for firing two employees over the refusal of wearing rainbow-colored emblems that violate religious beliefs. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a lawsuit against Kroger Company on Monday for the discriminatory behavior of Kroger Store No. 625 in Conway, Arkansas against the two employees. Two employees were terminated after they refused to abide by the new dress code that required wearing pro-LGBT aprons depicting a rainbow-colored heart emblem which they feared would signify the endorsing of the LGBTQ movement which is against their religious beliefs.READ MORE

At around 7 pm local time near a Metro rail station in Compton, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, 2 LA County Sheriff's Deputies, a 24-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman were fired gunshots at by a gunman without warning. As flooding damaged the school of Buckeye Local South Elementary and prevented students from attending, St. Joseph Church opened their doors to help.
