Sunday Assembly

A church in Nashville, Tennessee comprised only of atheists is reported to have grown so large that they are now carrying two “services” every day, only after three months after their inception.

The “atheist church” or “godless congregation” as they are often referred to, is in fact very similar to a regular Christian church. They provide childcare, and they even have a time of singing songs together. Their website also introduced that the singing is followed by a kind of address about trying to “figure out this world”. Although there was a great deal of criticism about the gathering that they are neglecting the “real thing”, many members of the community shared that they in fact feel welcome, especially those who moved in from out of state.

The assembly was originally founded by Sanderson Jones, a stand-up comedian. He started Britain’s Sunday Assembly which later expanded into several branches in New York, San Diego and Nashville. Recently the organization announced a plan to “plant” 40 more of these churches every year.
