Ken Ham, the founder and head of the Creation Museum in Kentucky, and Hill Nye the “Science Guy” continued their debate on creation and evolution through CNN’s Pier’s Morgan, after the initial talk that took place last week at Kentucky. This time the two figures focused on a more specific topic: Did dinosaurs and humans ever coexist?
Ken Ham, speaking for creation stated that all creatures, including dinosaurs, were on the sixth day. From a biblical perspective then, it is evident that dinosaurs and humans did coexist at one point. Ken Ham actually states in his writings, particularly the Lie, that the period right after Noah’s Flood would have been a time where many ancient species would have turned extinct, since there were only two of each species of animals.
Bill Nye on the other hand, claimed that Ham’s argument is essentially unscientific. A point that he made throughout both debates was that the Unites States will fall behind other countries unless it starts having its students to learn actual “scientific” facts.
Around 3 million people were reported to have watched the live stream debate that took place last week. The Kentucky Kernel reported many mixed reactions to the talk between the two speakers. Some students who expressed what they thought about the debate explained that they thought Ken Ham was not being entirely scientific with his arguments. One point they made was that he tended to overgeneralize. For instance, he left out the fact that Christians are not the only people who believe in a young earth.
Still other people thought Ken Ham was still a reasonable person with a reasonable argument, even though they thought he was not the best scientist.
