Brazil’s Ministry of Public Health has announced that it has contained its first patient that is suspected to have Ebola. According to the Korean Herald, the Brazilian government had quarantined a man who was born in Guinea, Africa.
The patient in question had shown some symptoms such as a high fever for the past few days. Although he has shown no signs of vomiting or bleeding, doctors have not yet confirmed whether this man actually was contaminated with the Ebola Virus or not. However, Guinea, after Liberia has had the most Ebola patients and deaths. As of now he has been transferred to a hospital in Rio de Janeiro for diagnostics and possible treatment.
The Herald reported that there could be a possibility that the Brazilian government has not been placing strict regulations regarding its citizens traveling abroad, even though they had put strict guidelines regarding foreigners coming into Brazil.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed that there have been a total of 4,000 deaths resulting from the Ebola Virus. Most of these victims are from Liberia, Guinea and other countries in West Africa. Although there have only been a total of 9 Ebola patients from nations outside Africa, including 1 from the U.S. who have died, the entire world is on constant alert for the epidemic spreading any further.
WHO also added that 233 medical personnel who were dispatched to West Africa were also killed while working to treat Ebola patients and fight the epidemic.
