The Seattle Seahawks defeated the Denver Broncos 48 to 8 on February 2nd, becoming this year’s Super Bowl champions. This was the first time the Seahawks won the Super Bowl in 38 years since their inception. However, many of the players declared that they believed Jesus Christ to be greater than their recent victory.
Major members of the team declared in an interview with Pastor Mark Driscoll from Mars Hill Church, that Christ is more valuable to them than any NFL victory, any worldly desire or even winning the Super Bowl. The players that made such a statement were quarterback Russell Wilson, offensive tackle Russell Okung, safety Chris Maragos, and long snapper Clint Gresham.
All these players talked about the unconditional love of Jesus and how it affects their lives. Chris Maragos especially emphasized how Christ came to die for all despite man’s sin. He also shared how one could discover his or herself after discovering Christ within one’s self.
Meanwhile, another interesting feature of this year’s Super Bowl was the fact that the Seahawks had scored 12 seconds into the first quarter, the shortest time in NFL history. Many fans however, soon realized that this year would be a rather one-sided game, and fans on both sides ended up slightly disappointed.
