Ann H. Park, a prosecutor for LA County, has become the first Korean-American woman to run for judge for the LA Superior Court. Prosecutor Park is already a key figure in the Korean-American community and has been participating in various campaigns and activities to stimulate her people.
Prosecutor Park immigrated to the United States when she was 17 in the year 1980. It was not easy for a teenage immigrant to get adjusted to a completely different environment. However, in 1983 she got accepted to the University of California Berkeley and eventually moved onto the renowned Hastings Law School.
After joining the LA County Prosecutors office, Park has been serving as prosecutor for 20 years now. Ever since the LA Riots of 1992, she developed an interest in race issues and worked to improve relations between people of different races.
What drew Park’s interest the most however, was stimulating the next generation of Korean-Americans. As a 20-year veteran in the prosecutors’ office, she has been opening the flood gates for more of her fellow Koreans into the field of law. She mentioned in her official letter for support, that if she were to win the vote, she would be able to prove to her new superiors in the court the capabilities of the Korean people. She will be able to give the younger generation more opportunities to unleash their dreams as attorneys, prosecutors and judges.
For the past 3 years, Ms. Park has been hosting a conference for female high school students. This year it will be held at the Buena Park Community Center (03/15/14). She has also done much more to widen the road to the American Dream for the Korean community.
