Over 41,000 people showed up at the Angels Stadium in Anaheim, California to listen to evangelist Greg Laurie’s message of hope titled “Jesus and You”. Pastor Laurie, the leader of Harvest Christian Fellowship, led over 4,000 people to come out onto the field and accept Christ.
During the message, Laurie told his congregation that if you have not yet accepted Christ into their lives they tend to be lonely as well as guilty. Laurie added that, “Right now, Jesus sees you; He doesn’t see a crowd. And he cares about you, and He loves you.” He noted that there are more people who are listening to this message together through television and the internet.
Pastor Laurie brought his listeners to the woman at the well from the Gospel of John chapter 4. The woman had lived with many husbands to find her partner she had simply given up. Laurie explained that the well, where the woman had her encounter with Jesus could be seen as a metaphor. If you drink from the well so-called materialism, you'll be excited for a while … but you'll never be satisfied," Laurie said. Drugs and other such substances do not satisfy either, and even relationships or fame do not satisfy, he stated.
Jesus however, had forgiven the woman for her sins, but only after the ultimate solution; she confessed her wrongdoings to him. He noted that all people want to love and more importantly want to be loved.
Pastor Laurie continued his message with the example of Robin Williams who recently committed suicide due to depression. Later, Laurie read out John 3:16, which says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
The evangelist ended his message with a simple “That’s it; that’s the Gospel.” After that he encouraged people to join him in an altar call and accept Jesus into their lives as Savior and Lord. He wrote on his personal blog online that over 4,000 people came down into the field at the Angels Stadium to accept the invitation.
