Logan Fields, a 25-year-old youth pastor who serves at Faith Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas is currently raising funds to develop a smartphone application called “Prayer Button”. This new software will be designed to enable people to pray together remotely. By using the app, a use will be able to join as many “prayer meetings” as they wish and it also calculates how many minutes an individual participated in prayer.

Fields explained to the Lubbock-Avalanche Journal that seeing the amount of time invested may give a person confidence in prayer. This is the same basic principle as receiving many “likes” on Facebook.

It turns out Pastor Fields has been “experimenting” his theory using his youth group as an example. He told Lubbock-Avalanche Journal about how he has been incorporating sticky notes to keep track of how long church members participate in group prayer. The minster shared that his attempts had brought about positive results; many young Christians who were struggling with prayer managed to find confidence in their prayers.

In addition, he explained on the “Prayer Button” website that "displaying the total time prayed in a prayer meeting helps you pray because you see an immediate result to your prayer and can set goals to help motivate you to pray more and to pray more consistently." In other words, he believes that keeping track of time spent on praying could allow a believer to view prayer in a more positive, more exciting way and not feel too constrained by time zones.

The pastor has been working on this new application for three years now, and he says he hopes to release it to the general public by the end of 2014.
