Jeremy Lin, the well-known Asian-American basketball player will be coming to Los Angeles in a trade between the Houston Rockets and the Los Angeles Lakers. Besides Tim Tebow, the Christian NFL player, Lin is probably the most popular athlete among Christians who are inspired by not only his talents on the basketball court but also his dedication to Christ.
Mitch Kupchak, the general manager of the L.A. Lakers expressed in a statement after the trade with the Rockets, “This trade allows us to acquire a solid player who will make us a better team, as well as draft picks to improve our team in the future, while at the same time allowing us to maintain financial flexibility. In addition to what he’ll bring us on the court, we think Jeremy will be warmly embraced by our fans and our community.”
Before being traded to the Houston Rockets, Lin was playing for the New York Knicks, and his exciting play stirred up a craze for the A young Asian-American player that fans liked to call “Linsanity”. “Linsanity” soon spread throughout New York as well as China and Taiwan. Even when Lin’s numbers on the court began to drop due to injuries, his fans continued to express their passion for him.
The Lakers have had a rather difficult past season in 2014, with their star player Kobe Bryant injured and the team failing to make it into the play offs. Many Lakers fans are already showing great excitement for the upcoming season and which players will be joining the team, some going as far as to hoping Lebron James (Miami Heat) who is now a Free Agent to join the Lakers.
