The Supreme Court of India has officially announced that Muslim leaders are bot allowed to force Muslim law upon citizens who are opposed to abiding by their system. The decision was met with great frustration and opposition by the Shariah Muslim leaders from Islam-dominated areas of India.

According to a survey by the Pew Research Center, India is home to the world’s second largest Muslim population in the world after Indonesia. Despite the popularity of Islam, Judge C.K. Prasad, the head of the Supreme Court told the Associated Press that no religion is allowed to force their beliefs on citizens to the point it curbs their most basic human rights.

Another Indian government insider expressed that Muslim leaders exercise too much influence in Islam-dominated areas. He stated that their power was to the extent that people who are opposed to Muslim were powerless to resist and oppose. He cited a case where a woman had been raped by her father-in-law and was forced by court to live with the perpetrator.

Muslim religious organizations expressed great frustration at the Supreme Court’s decision. Kamal Farooqi, a member of the All Muslim Personal Law Board, called the policy, “malicious propaganda” and stated that the Shariah Sect will continue to spread Islam all over India.
