Armed members of Boko Haram, an Islamic terrorist group in Nigeria, are reported to have kidnapped 8 more local girls in addition to the 200 school girls from a month earlier. It is reported by locals and police that the gunmen had carried out the kidnapping near one of their bases of operation in Northeastern Nigeria.
A local resident testified that the girls were only 12 to 15 years old and they were abducted on Monday night from the village, Warabe. He described the incident; that the armed members of the Boko Haram starting shooting their guns and took the children away in their trucks painted in military color. Reuters added that the terrorists even stole livestock and food from the villagers.
Daily Times Nigeria, the local newspaper also added that Boko Haram had even taken over the highways leading into the village to make their kidnapping operation easier. Most of the area surrounding Warabe has fallen under the terrorists’ control.
This is the second kidnapping by the terrorist group following the release of a video through CNN featuring Abubajar Shekau, who claimed to be the leader of the group. He stated how he had been ordained by Allah to kidnap the girls and sell them into a market for bargaining humans.
It is estimated that the girls are sold at around 123 U.S. dollars to bribe Boko Haram militants to be their wives. Others are reported to be prepared to be sold to Chad and other neighboring countries.
The previous mass abduction has stirred an international effort to bring the girls back to their homes.
