USC KCCC Graduation
This Tuesday was a special day for a campus ministry branch that is active at the University of Southern California. It was the day that USC’s branch of KCCC (Korea Campus Crusade for Christ), a major ministry on campus saw the appointing and feet washing of the next generation of spiritual leaders. It was a day when these freshman students had finished a training course to lead Bible study and share the Gospel with fellow USC students.
Every spring semester or quarter, KCCC begins a program which requires a great deal of courage and faith: to challenge its new students to take the time to answer God’s calling as missionaries and spiritual parents of their campus. Specifically, they will be asked to take responsibility for the spiritual lives of incoming freshman students and evangelize to non-believers regularly.
The actual training involves listening to a series of lectures given by full-time KCCC staff stationed at their campus and witnessing to a minimum number of people and attending major KCCC evangelist and discipleship events. As students at one of the most prestigious universities in California, these wanna-be missionaries had to sacrifice a great deal of time they could have been using for academics or leisure to learn more about being a disciple of Jesus Christ.
A special time of worship was given in celebration of the students’ graduation. Pastor Eugene Choi (KCCC full-time staff) focused on Jesus when he washed the feet of his disciples, pointing out how Peter had initially refused to let his teacher wash his feet. Many of the students present, though they had completed the training, still were in great confusion as to whether they had the heart to serve as leaders or if they were qualified to do so. However, Pastor Choi emphasized that it is not the qualifications or the requirements that mattered but the heart to serve God, and that like Peter, we tend to refuse to let Jesus work in our lives when we try to serve him.
After the message the freshmen were led into another room where the older students got down on their knees and washed their feet for them, marking the beginning of their new personal and campus and worldwide ministry.
Campuses all around the United States with KCCC ministries are seeing the anointing of these new disciple makers and even amidst all these events, many students are working to raise funds for this year’s KCCC summer mission project.
