It is the season for preparation for short term missions for Korea Campus Crusade for Christ (KCCC). The students from over 12 different college campuses and over 16 mission teams are gathering in various areas around California with ways to raise funds for Project Friendship, KCCC’s annual summer missions project.
The main methods of fundraising for these college students were MPD (Ministry Partner Development) and market funding. MPD involved writing letters asking for financial support from either friends, family or even strangers who may have a heart for supporting ministries abroad. Now is the time of the year where all of KCCC’s mission goers should have mailed out their letters to all their potential supporters.
Team 3 will be serving in Mongolia over this summer, and last week some of the members gathered at a market in Korea Town to raise funds. The process was simple; they would stand by the elevators in the market and ask exiting customers for donations to support their short term mission.
Many of the customers have been very generous to the student missionaries who sacrificed their weekends for God when they could have been either studying or relaxing. As they continued to raise funds, the students would come across people who have been to Mongolia or other countries for missions in the past. At one point, one customer who the students speculated could be a pastor took the time to pray and bless for the young missionaries.
After a few hours of standing by the elevators and talking to people, the team ended in prayer giving all glory to God before they left for KCCC’s weekly prayer gathering in Orange County.
Project Friendship will continue until the end of July, and is sending teams to over 16 countries around the globe to spread the Gospel. Team 3 will be leaving from Los Angeles to Ulanbataar, the capital of Mongolia on the 28th of May, less than six weeks from now. Each team member will have to have raised 3900 dollars before they are able to leave.
