God's Not Dead

On March 21st, a new Christian-based film “God’s Not Dead” was released in fewer than a thousand theaters across the world, and earned over 8 million dollars on its opening week. Kevin Sorbo, the lead actor in this newly released motion picture shared that his conservative views on politics, social issues and his faith in Christ has cost him jobs in Hollywood.

Sorbo expressed that he is probably one of the very few actors in Hollywood who openly express their views on social issues. He said he voted both Democratic and Republic The actor told The Epoch Times, "They (Hollywood) scream for tolerance, they scream for freedom of speech but if you disagree at all with what they're saying then they can blacklist you. They have the power to do that."

He also shared how Hollywood is very intolerant towards those who are not liberal. Fox News even reported that he had received a great deal of persecution for not voting for Obama.

Through Beliefnet, Sorbo also shared about his experiences as an actor and working on “God’s Not Dead”. This recently released faith-driven film features a debate between atheists and Christians about the existence of God. He is well-known for playing Hercules in “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys”. This time he plays an atheist professor who challenges one of the students to prove the existence of God. He had this to say on the new role:

"I'm not an atheist so playing an atheist was kind of fun. We're actors and it's interesting to play different roles and parts … the movie had a great message in it … I love doing faith-based movies but I don't want [them] to be preaching to the choir. You already have the choir. They're the people who believe in God, who believe in Jesus. Movies like this are for those fence sitters, those independent voters, so to speak," Sorbo said, according to Beliefnet.

There have been attempts by Christian actors within the Hollywood system to evangelize to their fellow actor and filmmakers, but often they end up losing their jobs or receiving heavy criticism.
