The Associated Press reported that Kim Jong Un, the dictator of North Korea was reported to have been elected to the highest position of power with 100 percent approval. He was the only candidate who was not voted against, according to the nation’s media. Kim was elected to this position despite the fact that he had ordered the execution of 33 people for contacting a South Korean missionary.

This was the first election since the death of Kim Jong Il, the father of Kim Jong Un, and who was previously the head of the National Defense Committee of North Korea. However, the elections was considered merely as a ritual than an actual political procedure according to Western experts.

Chosunilbo, a South Korean newspaper reported that Kim had ordered the execution of 33 civilians not too long before the election. They were convicted for coming into contact and receiving money from Kim Jung Wook, a South Korean missionary. Like other North Korean and Western Christians who were captured before them, the 33 were charged for trying to overthrow the North Korean regime.
