The United States and the European Union government insiders are already meeting to consider economic and political movements to isolate Russia after its declaration of war on Ukraine, considering the Crimean Peninsula. President Barack Obama stated that the Russian regime has violated past agreements with NATO considering its treatment of neighboring nations.
Oleksandr Turchynov, the acting president of Ukraine, has ordered Ukraine armed forces in the Crimean peninsula to be on the alert, and Andriy Deshchtsya, the foreign minister met with U.S. and E.U. officials to request NATO “examine all possibilities to protect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine”.
Many leaders of Europe also echoed the opinion of Obama. BBC Radio reported that British Foreign secretary William Hague, called the Russian occupation of the Crimean Peninsula the “biggest” crisis to face Europe in the 21st century. He told BBC that “The world cannot just allow this to happen. The world just cannot say it is OK, in effect to violate the sovereignty of another nation in this way.”
Likewise, foreign ministers of the European Union, along with the Organization for the Security and Cooperation in Europe are gathering to discuss what to do with the situation and have already sent inspectors to the Crimean Peninsula. The U.S. is also planning to send its own team of inspectors.
Meanwhile, Putin, the president of the Russian Federation won parliamentary approval intervene in Ukraine, and protect its naval base which holds the Crimean fleet, the day after Obama officially warned the regime.
