Rachael Collins, a 30-year-old British woman was told by doctors that her child will die before it was time to give birth. However, miraculously the child was born completely healthy despite expert prediction. During pregnancy, the physicians diagnosed Collins with oligohydramnios – the baby would have an insufficient supply of amniotic fluid to survive the pregnancy.
From the moment she became pregnant, Collins and her partner, Tyler O’Driscoll started keeping a diary to show their later-born child how much they loved and wanted him. However, doctors of Heartland Hospital (Birmingham) informed the couple that their baby (Alfie) had only a 10 percent chance of survival. They also claimed that even if Alfie does survive, he is likely to be born with no kidney or lung function.
It was not an easy decision for Collins and her partner, for just weeks before she had Alfie, she had gone through an ectopic pregnancy. They advised that it will be better to abort the baby. To this, Collins responded by expressing how she could feel her child moving inside and he was definitely alive. She refused to abort the baby.
In the end however, the child was born with all body functions intact.
