Geri Halliwell, former member of the Spice Girls, has made an official announcement regarding her engagement with Red Bull Racing Formula One team chief Christian Horner.

The couple had made their commitment and forthcoming nuptials public by taking to The Times and posting an advertisement worth £324 last Tuesday, similar to actor Benedict Cumberbatch's approach to announcing his own engagement.

The post states: 'Mr C.E.J. Horner OBE and Geri Halliwell, The engagement is announced between Christian, son of Mr and Mrs G.M. Horner and Geraldine, daughter of the late Mr L.F. Halliwell and Mrs A. Parkinson.'

According to Halliwell's representative, Ginger Spice's engagement has been welcomed with well wishes and prayers among family and friends.

Halliwell herself also took to social media and posted the following message about their future plans to her Twitter page: "Christian and I are delighted to announce that we are engaged! We're both very happy."

The 42-year-old former Spice Girl has been publicly dating Horner for almost eight months now and their engagement had been speculated earlier on this year. With the couple becoming friends in 2009, they were spotted together in Monaco during the same year and in Silverstone in 2013.

Horner has a one-year-old daughter with long-time partner Beverley Allen with whom he recently called it quits.

From her last marriage, Halliwell gave birth to her only daughter in 2006 to whom fellow Spice Girls members Emma Bunton and Victoria Beckham are godmothers.

After leaving Spice Girls in 1998, Halliwell moved on to her solo career as a music artist and released her first album 'Schizophonic.' This was followed by two more albums in 2001 and 2005 as well as an opportunity to work as a judge for 'Australia's Got Talent.'

In 2012, Halliwell opened up to Hello and revealed that she only began dating when she reached her 30s, calling herself a "late star on the romantic front."

"I quite like having somebody to cuddle," she added. "I like that intimacy. It would be wonderful."

The couple's wedding date has not yet been announced.
