Today the Islamic State released yet another video of a beheading. The video depicts British aid worker Alan Henning being executed by a masked militant, similar to the previous three videos depicting the beheadings of Americans James Foley and Steven Sotloff and British aid worker David Haines.
“Hi I’m Alan Henning, because of our Parliament’s decision to attack the Islamic State, I as a member of the British republic will now pay the price for that decision,” Henning begins the video. The video misspells his name as “Allen.”
47-year-old Henning was captured back in December while helping deliver medical supplies to a hospital in northwestern Syria. Before going to Syria to help those in need, he was a taxi driver in the U.K.
Henning has a wife and children. His wife Barbara Henning made a public plea for his life last week.
The video has elicited a response from Prime Minister David Cameron who said, “The fact that he was taken hostage when trying to help others and now murdered demonstrates that there are no limits to the depravity of these ISIL terrorists.”
“My thoughts and prayers tonight are with Alan's wife Barbara, their children and all those who loved him,” he said.
Other leaders from around the world expressed their condemnation of the Islamic State’s murder of the fourth western hostage.
“The United States strongly condemns the brutal murder of United Kingdom citizen Alan Henning by the terrorist group Isil. Mr Henning worked to help improve the lives of the Syrian people and his death is a great loss for them, for his family and the people of the United Kingdom,” said President Obama.
At the end of the video, another hostage is shown. The Islamic State captured 26-year-old American Peter Edward Kassig while he was working as a humanitarian. Kassig started his own aid organization called Special Emergency Response and Assistance.
