After taking on professional wrestling and action films, Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock recently got emotional in an interview for 'Oprah's Master Class' wherein he had drawn attention to the relationship that he has with his teen daughter, Simone, and recalled his experience with depression.
In a clip from Sunday's episode, the ‘Furious 7’ star opened up about his family life, particularly his fiancée, Lauren Hashian, with whom he is presently expecting his second child, and his 14-year-old daughter, with his ex-wife Dany Garcia.
"I wake up every day so grateful and so thankful that you have someone like that," Johnson said of Hashian. "Someone you could walk through this world with... The smile is real when I think about that."
The former wrestler went on to share his sentiments about raising his daughter.
"I realized being a father is the greatest job I have ever had. The greatest job I will ever have," the 43-year-old actor said. "I always wanted to be a great dad. I always wanted to give Simone things I felt I never got.”
Johnson placed emphasis on his commitment to keeping his daughter safe and, despite the ups and downs, carry on with leading their lives with love.
“… Not success. Not fame. Not anything else. But I'm always here for you. I love you,” he warmly addressed his daughter.
The ‘San Andreas’ actor also recalled a conversation he had with Simone when she reached 13 with which he asked her what she liked most about their father-daughter relationship, which then led to Johnson getting teary-eyed.
"And she said, 'Well, that I trust you,'" he shared. "And for a 13-year-old girl to say that to her dad considering where I was at 13 — the instability I had — and said that I trust you and that we have a very special bond ... and that moved me.”
Moreover, Johnson discussed his battle with depression when he struggled during the NFL draft at 23 and was picked up by Canadian league team, the Calgary Stampeders, but was eventually taken out of the roster two months later.
"I found that, with depression, one of the most important things you could realize is that you're not alone," Johnson said in another clip. "You're not the first to go through it; you're not going to be the last to go through it."
After Johnson's interview went viral, the actor took to social media and expressed his gratitude to his fans for the considerable amount of support he has received after making the difficult admission.
"Thx fam. Hardest thing sometimes (especially men) is asking for help," he shared on Twitter. "I wish I did. You're never alone. Speak up."
