"Supergirl" star Melissa Benoist loves how her character will transition from being a quiet and timid young girl in the series into a full-fledged heroine, and she believes that her character will feel like she is going to school this season.

"What's great about it is that she's juggling all these different lives and relationships and her job - and her job as a superhero and what that means. And what kind of superhero she wants to be. You will see her grow by leaps and bounds throughout the season. It's kind of like she's going to college for superheroes," she told the New York Post in an interview.

Benoist is prepared for some people, particularly avid comic book fans to criticize the show, because people will have their own ideas what's great or what's not. But personally, she loves how "Supergirl" shaped up and she is proud of the work they have accomplished.

"That's something we encountered on 'Glee,' too," she said about the previous television show she worked on together with husband Blake Jenner.

"People always have their opinions and not everybody is going to be happy all the time. What I'm really excited about is that the writers of this show are so familiar in their knowledge of the comic book world... and are bringing so much of the comic book mythology into the show," she explained.

Benoist shared that she watched the show's premiere with her mother, which made the experience more special for her.

"I didn't get to watch the premiere live because I was on a plane from New York to LA. I got to watch it with my mom shortly after we finished filming it, which was really nice," she said.

Meanwhile, "Supergirl" might have her fair share of bashers already, but she also has found a fan in Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush.

"Supergirl is on TV - I saw that when I was working out this morning," the 62-year-old politician earlier said. "She looked pretty hot. I don't know what channel it's on, but I am looking forward to it."

When Benoist was recently asked how she feels about her high-profile fan, the actress gave an awkward albeit adorable answer.

"I heard about it. You know I don't know what to think," she admitted.

Benoist then recovered from her shyness and quickly added with a smile, "I'm glad he is excited to watch the show."

"Supergirl" airs on CBS every Monday.
