The year 2015 is one of breakups and unions for singer Gwen Stefani. Back in August, she announced her split from long-time partner Gavin Rossdale. And just this month, she has started her fellow coach from "The Voice" Blake Shelton.

Her music is a reflection of her personal journeys, and while promoting her new single "Used to Love You," Stefani told the radio station San Diego's 93.3 on Tuesday that her new album is actually a "breakup record."

"I didn't even know the single was coming out. I promise you that it was very last-minute. It's weird because 'Used to Love You' came out the exact same week as the 20-year anniversary of (No Doubt's) 'Tragic Kingdom,' which just to me is like, 'What are the chances of that?'" she shared.

The theme of her other songs would be pretty consistent with "Used to Love You," the singer said because it is a testament to her heartbreak.

"I would consider it a breakup record. Both of them were. It's like the two people I... I only had two boyfriends. I wrote two records about them. You know what I mean? It's just weird," Stefani, 46, shared with the radio hosts. "It just makes me believe in God and my journey. My cross to bear was to go through these heartbreaks and write these songs and help people."

People are curious how Stefani is faring after her divorce, and she said that all her feelings have already been invested in her new single.

"My truth is 'Used to Love You': That's the song. That's what I said, and I feel really fine about sharing that, and I feel honored to share it," she said.

Stefani further explained that her divorce came unexpectedly. She was going through her life thinking everything was set. So when the breakup happened, it caught her off guard.

"There was one night, the epicenter of the whole thing - that's the most I can say about that - and the next day I wrote the chorus to 'Used to Love You,'" she said.

Shelton, who also divorced from his wife Miranda Lambert seems to be helping Stefani heal from her divorce, and many people are thrilled that the two have gotten together.

"They've been supporting each other through a difficult time and they're really happy together," a source told PEOPLE. "Everyone is thrilled because they're both incredibly nice people."
