Gal Gadot could not thank her lucky stars enough for being cast as Wonder Woman in Zack Snyder's highly anticipated superhero film "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," but she had to admit that being a part of the film has its pressures.
'It's been a long process. It started when I was back in Los Angeles and I was told I had a very important audition for a Warner Bros production, but no one said it was," the actress shared with Total Film.
''After a month or two months, they called me and said that they wanted to test me for this movie. It's crazy, because you feel like you're working with the CIA because everything is so confidential," she further shared. ''And then, a week later, Zack Synder called me. He said, 'Okay, I'm not sure you have it in Israel or how big it is in Israel, but have you heard of Wonder Woman?'''
Gadot was both shocked and happy about the news, and it took her a while to react to Snyder's statement.
''My draw literally dropped," she recalled. "I died for a few seconds, then I went back to life. Then I tried to get back my coolest voice, and not talk like I'm shaky and overwhelmed."
To answer Snyder's question, Gadot said that everybody knows about Wonder Woman, and she even considers the female superhero as a "household name" everywhere.
"She's an icon. I wasn't born during the 'Wonder Woman' show with Lynda Carter, so I didn't get to see that (growing up), but I did watch the cartoon," revealed Gadot.
After getting the role, Gadot studied up on Carter's portrayal by watching the series, and she was floored by Carter's performance. "She was fantastic. I absolutely love her," she gushed.
It was a good thing that Gadot looks up to Carter, since they are going for the same tone of Wonder Woman in the DC films, but with a modern twist.
"Zack Snyder is in collaboration with Patty Jenkins, who's going to direct (the solo 'Wonder Woman'). All of us want to evolve the character because what you saw back then, you've already seen," she said. "So we're going to give it another layer of interpretation and make her a bit more relevant and a bit more up to date."
Gadot stressed that Wonder Woman's story needs to be told because she will undoubtedly inspired countless people.
"I'm so happy that it's me to tell this story. I think that there's no better time than now, and it's about time that we showed this amazing heroine on the big screen," she said.
