It has been several years since audiences saw charming sorority house lawyer Elle Woods bend and snap on the big screen, and now Reese Witherspoon, the actress who portrayed her said that it's about time Elle's story be continued.

"I think we're ready to see Elle and see what she's up to lately," Witherspoon said while appearing in "Fashionably Late With Rachel Zoe," Entertainment Weekly reports.

Witherspoon admitted that continuing Elle's story is not really her call, but if she had her way, then she would definitely be game to reprise her role and even put the fun-loving Gemini veteran in the White House.

"A lot of writers over the years have come up with different ideas for it," Witherspoon said. "I actually think it's kind of great right now because we're talking about women in politics and how important that is to get more women. And I think it'd be kind of a cool thing to have her be a Supreme Court justice or someone who runs for office."

The first "Legally Blonde" film was released in 2001, where Elle went to Harvard law school in order to win back her former flame Warner. Along the way, Elle realizes that there is actually more to her than just a pretty face, and comes into her own as a lawyer. At the same time, she dumps Warner and falls in love with her colleague.

Because of its success, a sequel was made in 2003 called "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde." In it, Elle is about to get married to her and Emmet's wedding, and she wants to invite her dog's mother Bruiser to the big day. When she goes looking for Bruiser's mother, she finds out that a cosmetics company is actually testing Bruiser's mother along with several other animals, and she uses her law degree to seek justice for the animals.

Interestingly, the role of Elle was initially offered to "Married...With Children" star Christina Applegate, who turned it down because she did not want to play the same kind of character again.

"The script came along my way, and it was right after I had just finished 'Married,'" Applegate said. "I got scared of kind of repeating myself. What a stupid move that was."

Applegate now regrets her decision to pass up on the role, but she cannot deny what a fantastic job Witherspoon did as Elle. "Reese deserved it, and she did a much better job than I ever could," Applegate said.
