Disney darling Zendaya Coleman recently called out Modeliste magazine for making certain changes on her cover-shoot photos, which the singer deemed as unnecessary. After stating her remarks about the heavily retouched images, the magazine was prompted to pull its November issue and put forward an apology for slenderizing Zendaya without her permission.
"Had a new shoot come out today and was shocked when I found my 19 year old hips and torso quite manipulated," the former Disney Channel star wrote as caption for an Instagram photo that compared her original photo with an altered output.
The ‘Replay’ singer also pointed out that such things are what urge women to become more self-conscious, thereby coming up with the “unrealistic ideals of beauty” that are being followed today.
“Anyone who knows who I am knows I stand for honest and pure self love," Zendaya added. "So I took it upon myself to release the real pic (right side) and I love it."
After meeting up with Zendaya and her folks, Modeliste Editor-in-Chief Amy McCabe assured them that the magazine will publish the “authentic” unedited images from the young star’s photo shoot in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
Zendaya has been known for promoting positive body image over the years, slamming critics online for throwing negative comments about her body type.
"People be like 'I can see her bones' ......um yeah good observation booboo, that's called a clavicle," she wrote on Twitter. "For anyone who can relate… People be like 'I can't even see her bones'..good observation booboo, that's called a curve."
Such occurrence is only the latest in a number of controversies involving images of female models being retouched to get rid of flaws or enhance body parts. Earlier this year, a leaked image of Cindy Crawford in lingerie for Marie Claire brought in praises for showing the 48-year-old former model in a realistic light.
Meanwhile, Zendaya also recently appeared in a photo shoot for beauty website Mane Addicts, showing off poses inspired by style icons ranging from Diana Ross to Brooke Shields.
"With beauty and fashion, I think everyone should just try to create their own," she told the website. "Don't try to fit into a mold that doesn't exist. We each have our own form of beauty, and that's really special."
Zendaya stars in the Disney Channel show ‘K.C. Undercover’ and unveiled a self-titled album in 2013. During the same year, she became the youngest contestant in the history of ABC's ‘Dancing With the Stars.’
