As the search for Carrie Mathison begins, the third episode of ‘Homeland’ season five will put forward a couple of domestic and international incidents caused by such manhunt. However, fans have been worried over Saul Berenson’s intentions of harming his longtime colleague.
In the most recent teaser trailer, capturing Carrie (Claire Danes) is the major plan as Saul (Mandy Patinkin) asks for the assistance of Berlin station chief Alison to obtain details about the former CIA agent’s whereabouts.
One of his lines also has longtime fans shocked and confused as he tells his colleague, “if you aim to kill, don't miss.”
Aside from Saul, Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) can also be seen in the new promo, having a conversation with German intelligence acquaintance Astrid to find out whether she has an update on Carrie.
Before the clip ends, Carrie herself is shown as she prepares to take down an unknown target. While it does not appear to be the black-ops agent, it is rumored that Quinn could be in a nearby location.
In another sneak peek titled ‘How It All Fits Together,’ Saul meets up with an Israeli intelligence officer who is questioning his new perceptions of Carrie. Somehow, he accuses Saul of keeping Carrie undercover as a means of carrying out a secret mission, similar to what they have been doing in the previous seasons.
Although Saul strongly denies such allegations, the speculation about such possibility continues.
Meanwhile, in the teaser titled ‘Hundreds of Names,’ the footage zeroes in on Carrie as she asks for the assistance of her love interest Jonas to create an enemies list. He goes into shock upon finding out about the large number of civilians that have been killed by unsuccessful drone strikes led by Carrie.
Although he does not put across his disapproval in a straightforward way, such knowledge still causes a domestic feud.
‘Homeland’ co-creator Alex Gansa previously discussed the challenges of putting back the main characters together in one story, particularly with Carrie out of the agency, Saul remaining with the CIA and Quinn having to leave to deal with his own tasks and personal issues.
“How do we get these people in each other's faces and lives again? Is it fun? A little. Is it challenging? A lot. But it's definitely gratifying when it works,” Gansa said.
Showtime’s ‘Homeland’ season five returns for its third episode on Oct. 18. A sneak peek is available below.
