As amazing as "Jurassic World" was, some people still thought that the movie showcased a lot of inaccuracies. One would think that people would be focused on the depiction of dinosaurs in the film; but no, people were actually fixated on something else entirely - Claire Dearing's feet.
More specifically, people were iffy about the character's use of high heels while trying to escape from the terrifying new dinosaur Indominus Rex.
Vulture deemed Claire's use of high heels as "lazy filmmaking," while The Dissolve thought it was "one tiny but maddening detail" that set up the film to "fail."
People seem highly critical of how a woman would manage to outrun a dinosaur in the jungle with high heels on, and actually thought that Claire would fare better running barefoot.
But speaking to Yahoo! Movies, Bryce Dallas Howard, the actress who portrayed Claire in the film defended the film's decision to let Claire wear her high heels.
"Claire is ill-equipped to be in the jungle. This person does not belong in the jungle," she said. "And then when she ends up in the jungle it's how does this person adapt to being in the jungle?"
It would be great if there were sneakers nearby that she can easily slip on to, but there were no other footwear available for her to use. So Claire simply made use of what she had on.
"From a logical standpoint I don't think she would take off her heels," she reasoned. "I don't think she would choose to be barefoot. I don't think she would run faster barefoot in the jungle with vines and stones."
According to Howard, people would be able to move more easily when their feet are protected by shoes - even if they are high-heeled.
"I'm better equipped to run when I have shoes on my feet. So that's my perspective on it. I don't think she would carry around flats with her. I think she's somebody who could sprint a marathon in heels," she said.
Howard added that it's perfectly reasonable for Claire to go to the jungle still wearing her high heels because she came from work and did not really expect a dinosaur attack. The actress even lauded the character's ability to adapt to changing situations really well.
"For me, it was actually logical for her to be in that very illogical situation because she doesn't belong in the jungle and yet she finds herself there and has to adapt," she said.
