Actors Will Smith and Jared Leto worked together for a number of months on the highly-anticipated film ‘Suicide Squad,’ but the ‘Focus’ star claims that he "never actually met Leto".
As the actor graced the Beats 1 radio show with his presence to promote his return to the music industry, he also shared certain tidbits about Leto's "method" approach to portraying the role of The Joker.
"We worked together for 6 months and we've never exchanged a word outside of 'Action!' and 'Cut!' We've never said 'Hello,' we've never said 'Good day,’” Smith admitted.
Moreover, the ‘I Am Legend’ actor claimed that the only time he has really spoken to the ‘Thirty Seconds of Mars’ lead singer was when they were filming as Deadshot and Joker, respectively.
“So, the first time I see him will be 'Hey, Jared. What's up?' Not a single word exchanged off camera,” Smith added. “He was all in on the Joker... I'm looking forward to meeting him."
Actress Margot Robbie, who takes on the role of Harley Quinn in the movie, also shared the same sentiments about Leto, admitting that she has been very used to interacting with him as the Joker.
"What he's doing with the character is so cool," she told Daily News, describing her co-star’s "pretty impressive" performance. "At first it was kind of confronting to be up close, but now I'm so used to it, I think if I ever saw him out of makeup now I would be really confused.”
Looking into these actors’ perspectives, fans are looking forward to Leto’s take on the villainous role; while there have only been brief glimpses at The Joker in the official ‘Suicide Squad’ trailer, it will be interesting to see whether the Oscar-winning actor will live up to or even go beyond viewers’ expectations.
Previous performances by Jack Nicholson in 1989’s ‘Batman’ and the late Heath Ledger in 2008’s ‘The Dark Knight’ were mostly met with positive responses.
Aside from Smith, Leto and Robbie, ‘Suicide Squad’ stars Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, Adam Beach as Slipknot and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller. As for Ike Barinholtz, Scott Eastwood, Raymond Olubowale, Alex Meraz, Jim Parrack and Common, their roles remain undisclosed.
‘Suicide Squad’ will make its way to theaters on Aug. 5, 2016.
