There is no denying that the hit HBO television series "Game of Thrones" is a good fit for the big screen, and while people toyed with the idea, nothing ever came to fruition until now when famed author George R.R. Martin confirmed that a big screen adaptation of his novels is already in the works.

"There will be a movie but I will not be involved," Martin said after his series won a record-breaking 12 Emmys. "I have too much to do. That is something HBO and (writers) David Benioff and Dan Weiss are dealing with."

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Martin's current priority is not the "Game of Thrones" series or the movie, but rather the novels from which the two are based.

"I have two more books to finish and I still have so much to do. The pressure is on. I am such a slow writer and the fans get upset that I don't write faster," he said.

Reports have it that the "Game of Thrones" movie would turn back the clock and focus on a certain timeframe during the series which would bring back to life dead characters such as Ned Stark.

At the same time, it looks like the television series is nearing its end, with probably two more seasons left after they finish filming the sixth season.

Also during the Emmys after party, Benioff was asked if "Game of Thrones" would make it to ten seasons, but the writer candidly answered: "No way in hell because we know what the end is and we're rapidly approaching it."

The same idea has been echoed by HBO programming president Michael Lombardo, who said during the Television Critics Association that he was "feeling two more years after (season) six."

Season six is set to air sometime in 2016, with a lot of new characters to be introduced, such as Samwell Tarly's family and Theon Greyjoy's family.

James Faulkner, Samantha Spiro and Rebecca Benson have all been cast for the next season to play Sam's father Randyll, mother Melessa, and sister Talla, respectively.

Meanwhile, "Harry Potter" star Freddie Stroma will play Sam's favoured younger brother Dickon.

Danish actor Pilou Asbæk has been cast as the terrifying pirate Euron Greyjoy, who runs the ship Silence. It has been named Silence because all of its crew had to have their tongues cut out before going on board.
