With the second ‘Avatar’ film set for an official premiere in Christmas 2017, details about the highly anticipated movie’s issues in filming and production have also been revealed.
Director James Cameron previously confirmed that he made negotiations to come up with three more sequels for ‘Avatar,’ which suggests that ‘Avatar 3’ and ‘Avatar 4’ are also scheduled for production.
While ‘Avatar’ focused on Pandora’s plant ecosystem, the upcoming sequel will reportedly draw attention to the planet’s water ecosystem. Cameron has already opened up about shedding more light on oceans as the award-winning director has already been recognized for his active involvement in Earth conservation.
In particular, the Oscar winner placed emphasis on the need to preserve coral reefs and other underwater living things owing to the likelihood that they will not last for more than 50 years if irresponsible behaviors are continued.
Cameron also dropped hints that he obtained ideas for ‘Avatar 2’ following his scuba diving experiences. However, in contrast to previous speculations, the storyline for the upcoming sequels will not be carried out over or under water. The ecosystem will merely be deemed as a part of the larger picture that the movie will be exploring.
Nonetheless, producer Jon Landau previously revealed that ‘Avatar 2’ will have team members who are capable of conducting the testing process for the new technology on underwater motion capture.
Landau explained that the team is set to use animation and graphics to simulate the water, although it will not create a similar effect for the actors, thus the need to utilize technology that will help capture the actors’ experience when shooting scenes inside a tank.
"Cameron himself has revealed that the technology will help them speed up the filming process. A lot of the graphics and computer software have been developed at Weta Digital in New Zealand where Avatar 2's animation and special effects is worked upon," a website report claimed.
Sigourney Weaver, Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington are expected to return and reprise their roles in ‘Avatar 2.’ Michelle Rodriguez has already confirmed that she will no longer be making a comeback as Trudy Chacon.
While there will be new characters, cultures and habitats, the main conflict in ‘Avatar 2’ will be brought about by the humans’ tendency to rule over nature and the Na’vis inclination towards becoming one with nature.
With the first film’s record-breaking release in 2009, ‘Avatar’ soared to the top of the global box office and has then become the highest-grossing movie in history after making a total gross of approximately $2.8 billion in cinemas worldwide.
