‘Downton Abbey’ season 6 makes a comeback with its second episode titled ‘Carnival,’ which will reportedly set the tone for the element of conflict in the final installment.
As reported by International Business Times, the first episode of the new season gave fans a glimpse of the issues that will arise in the subsequent scenes.
Such conflict could possibly involve Mr. Carson (Jim Carter) and Mrs. Hughes (Phyllis Logan) continuing their disagreement about their plans over their own marriage.
As for the Dowager Countess (Maggie Smith) and Isobel Crawley (Penelope Wilton), they will remain engaged in a palpable power struggle, while Anna and Bates still struggle with conceiving a child.
Meanwhile, Lady Edith (Laura Carmichael) will be left helpless and cut off with her daughter, Marigold.
In ‘Downton Abbey’ season six, episode two, the younger Crawley sister will look for possible candidates to care for Marigold in London.
However, with the unhelpful circumstances, including a lack of support from her own sister Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery), Edith is expected to ask help once again from the Drewes in the ‘Carnival’ episode, Radio Times reported.
"As ever, Mary is being unhelpful so Edith decides to drop in on the Drewes and ask them to keep an eye on Marigold,” the site stated. "They were so accommodating last time, after all. And they are kind of staff seeing as they rent land off the estate.”
Season six will still follow the relationship between Mary and Edith. Dockery previously dropped hints of their storyline and opened up about their sibling relationship, describing it as “very town and country.”
She further explained that the tension is still on between the Crawley sisters, yet it has become increasingly obvious that their lives are very parallel to each other. Dockery’s character also becomes more unpleasant as she looks at Edith’s experiences.
Moreover, Robert Crawley will reportedly have to cope with a tight spot in the second episode.
“What begins as a happy day out for the family and servants ends in panic and leaves Robert with a difficult decision to make,” the episode’s summary states.
"As planning for their wedding gets underway, Lady Mary's meddling gets Mr Carson into trouble with Mrs Hughes. Cora and Violet lock horns over plans for the hospital takeover. Thomas's job search continues with disappointing results," the synopsis also adds.
'Downton Abbey' seaosn six airs Sundays, 9 pm, on ITV.
