On September 25, Samsung officially introduced the result of its partnership with virtual reality tech firm Oculus VR.

The device, names as the Samsung Gear VR, will be released this fall for $99, Inferse reported.

According to Samsung, the Gear VR will be marketed as a consumer version of its partner's Oculus Rift headset. It is also designed to work with the South Korean company's various devices including the Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5.

Through the headset's microUSB support, users will be able to connect their Samsung handsets to enjoy their games and videos in a virtual reality setting. It also comes with an improved touchpad that features enhanced functions and responsiveness.

In addition, the latest device is 22 percent lighter than the Gear VR Innovator Edition that came out last year for Samsung's Galaxy Note 4 phablet.

"Samsung has been at the forefront of delivering mobile experiences and Gear VR Innovator Edition launched last year was no exception," JK Shin, the CEO of Samsung said in a statement.

"We see virtual reality as the next computing platform and we are thrilled to partner with Oculus on Gear VR to set the standard for mobile VR and bring this revolutionary product to consumers.

For Oculus VR, its partnership with Samsung has provided the company the chance to deliver its technology to a wider audience.

"Together with Samsung, we've redefined virtual reality and created the best mobile VR experience available today," company CEO Brendan Iribe said according to EWeek. "On Gear VR, people are playing immersive VR games with friends sharing 360 video experiences, and teleporting around the world with photos and videos - and it's only the beginning for what's possible with mobile VR."

The two companies, however, have not yet revealed the exact release date of the VR headset. Samsung only mentioned that it will hit stores sometime this year and with a retail price of $99.

As for the other highly-anticipated headset, the Oculus Rift is still in development with a targeted launch period of sometime during the first quarter of 2016.

Official details regarding the upcoming device are still unclear but according to the company, it will sport a dual AMOLED display which will provide users with clear virtual reality images. It will also feature an infrared LED constellation tracing system that is expected to provide smooth and accurate 360-degrees orientation and positioning.

The headset will also come with its own audio system for a truly immersive experience.
