Kappa Kappa Tau, an exclusive sorority at Wallace University is run by Chanel Oberlin and her loyal band of minions, namely Chanel numbers 1-5. The existence of the historic group of women is threatened by Dean Cathy Munsch, activists, the campus publication, and a killer known as The Red Devil. 'Scream Queens' Season 1 Episode 1 aired on Sept. 22 on FOX.
Grace Gardner, whose mother was a member of Kappa Kappa Tau in 1995 is determined to restore the glory days of KKT. Grace becomes a pledge in memory of her mother and also to take down Chanel and her minions. Grace teams up with the editor of the campus newspaper Pete Martínez.
The Dean attempts to shut down KKT due to Chanel's actions, but the shut down is blocked by Gigi Caldwell, the National President of KKT. Gigi forces KKT to accept all people as pledges to the sorority. Chanel's reputation is broken, which causes her boyfriend Chad Radwell to break up with her.
In an attempt to scare away the new pledges whom Chanel thinks are unworthy of KKT, she pranks their maid Ms. Bean. The prank goes horribly wrong, as Ms. Bean's face is burned off and she dies. Chanel orders the pledges to stow away the dead body in the freezer.
They soon discover that Ms. Bean might still be alive. Her body mysteriously vanished from the freezer. Chanel and her minions do a blood oath, which she states is "cheaper than buying you all presents." They are unable to complete the blood oath because one of them has HPV and Chanel #2 gets scared.
Chanel #3 runs away to her room to pack in order to escape the Kappa mansion. She receives a text from a unknown number and when she turns around, she sees The Red Devil. They exchange texts while standing in front of each other and The Red Devil gives her an ultimatum by texting, "I'm going to kill you now." The killer stabs her with a kitchen knife. Chanel #3 survives the attack and kicks the killer away, which gives her time to crawl to her laptop. She updates her Facebook status to let people know that The Red Killer is killing her.
