AMC has released the official synopsis for the upcoming premiere of ‘The Walking Dead’ season six.
As stated on a brief summary for the season’s first ever episode titled ‘First Time Again,’:
"Rick [Andrew Lincoln] and the group are still having trouble assimilating into Alexandria. Will a new threat bring them closer together or drive them further apart?"
Although the summary does not disclose much information about the season six premiere episode, showrunner Scott M. Gimple previously announced during his appearance in last month's episode of "Talking Dead" that the first episode for the sixth season will be a remarkable one as it will have the biggest number of walkers in the series' history.
When asked if anyone would known the exact number for the most walkers in a "Walking Dead" episode," Gimple responded, “The guy who knows that number is currently breaking that number. That's Greg [Nicotero]."
During such interview, Nicotero - who helmed the ‘Walking Dead’ season six premiere - was working on the ninth episode, the midseason premiere. Gimple revealed that the number of walkers on such episode is "pretty big, too."
Moreover, Nicotero also serves as executive producer and special effects makeup artist on the series. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in July, he announced that the premiere will begin in the midst of a "heightened action sequence," which fans will learn more about as the sixth season moves back and forth in time.
Andrew Lincoln, who plays group leader Rick Grimes, previously told Entertainment Weekly that season six, episode one will be “something that people are not going to expect."
"I certainly didn't when I read it," the 42-year-old actor stated. "And when we filmed it, it just grew and grew and it got deeper and deeper."
Meanwhile, the show has promoted three cast members to series regulars; these include Tovah Feldshuh (Deanna Monroe), Alexandra Breckenridge (Jessie Anderson) and Austin Nichols (Spencer Monroe), who all joined the hit zombie drama series last season five with recurring roles.
The trio joins another series regular Lennie James (Morgan Jones), who returns to the zombie drama series after a number of appearances since the first season, including the pilot.
With these recently promoted characters, the roster of series regulars has reached a total of 18, an unsurpassed record for the hit zombie drama. In the previous season, the show had 17 series regulars.
‘The Walking Dead’ season six premieres with a special 90-minute episode on Oct. 11, at 9 p.m. on AMC.
