Phil Spencer, the head of Microsoft's Xbox brand, came forward to explain why "Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn" didn't, and probably will never, arrive for the Xbox One or Xbox 360 consoles.

According to the executive, the consoles were snubbed primarily due developer Square Enix's business strategy.

"Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn" first came out sometime in 2013 for the Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 3 platforms. It then made its way to the PlayStation 4 in 2014 before arriving for the Mac OS X earlier this year.

Despite coming out more than two years ago, some Xbox owners are still hoping that the game will arrive for their consoles. After all, Square Enix is a third-party developer and it launched the game on multiple platforms.

But according to Spencer, "Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn" did not arrive for the Xbox consoles due to Square Enix's business deals with other companies.

"It's business," he told IGN. "As I've grown in this role, and I've tried to learn the third-party exclusivity thing - and you see us doing less of it now - [I've found] it's not something I'm a huge fan of."

Despite being snubbed from the game, Spencer doesn't feel bad about it after all, Microsoft has also made similar types of deals in the past.

For instance, the upcoming "Rise of the Tomb Raider," which was also published by Square Enix, will come out as a timed exclusive game for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One consoles in November of this year.

The game's exclusivity will then expire in 2016 when it launches for Sony's PlayStation 4 console.

Also, the PC mod of the multi-platform game "Fallout 4" will first arrive for the Xbox One before heading to the PlayStation 4. As explained by the game's developer Bethesda, it decided to partner with Microsoft instead of Sony for the release of the feature because the Redmond-based firm has a strong foothold in both the PC and console markets, Gamespot reported.

As noted by Spencer, exclusivity deals are part of the video game industry.

"Different kinds of deals happen, and I know that's part of this business, and maybe it'll be my failing in the end," he said. "But it's not something I specifically embrace with any deal that's out there, whether it's something else. It's just not something I can explicitly talk to."

Spencer, however, did not mention if the game will never arrive for Microsoft's consoles. So, like in the case of "Rise of the Tomb Raider," there's still a chance that "Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn" could arrive for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
