While ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ brought to light the significance of new characters and team forces at work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, one of the most central characters is Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch.
Her story takes on a transformative sweep, turning the character from a heinous sidekick to a seemingly committed Avenger by the end of the movie.
For the upcoming ‘Captain America: Civil War’, the third installment in the ‘Captain America’ film series is expected to divide the Avengers, although certain allegiances remain uncertain. Fans are still unsure as to who Scarlet Witch will fight for, and Olsen is keeping mum about any possible hints.
“She’s O.K.,” Olsen said in an interview with MTV, speaking about her character. “She’s doing alright. She’s confused, she’s conflicted. She’s found some people she thinks she connects with, but she’s doing alright. They released images of Team Cap and Team Iron Man. She wasn’t there. She’s always the wild card. I like being the wild card.”
The 26-year-old actress referred to the images posted by co-star Jeremy Renner on his Twitter account.
The artwork did not include Scarlet Witch, which left numerous fans wondering who she would fight for as Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) battle it out with each other. According to the speculations, the two will have disagreements over the Accords, an act that would oversee and exert control over superheroes around the world.
As to how the telekinetic superhero’s story will play out, Scarlet Witch undoubtedly did not seem to be fond of Iron Man at the start of ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron.’ She knew that a weapon created by Stark Industries had killed her parents.
Sooner or later, Olsen’s character joined Tony Stark and the other Avengers, and it seemed that Captain America was going to participate more in her training than Iron Man. It is also rumored that the Scarlet Witch will have a stronger bond with the WWII veteran.
Even a report from Heroic Hollywood stated that, based on anonymous sources, the new Avenger will be siding with Captain America.
In addition, Olsen’s interview pointed towards the possibility of her powers going beyond what was shown in ‘Age of Ultron.’ The actress is also presently working with movement coach Jennifer White to enhance the character’s sense of motion.
“It’s not a new hand technique per se. We’re trying to grow her movement as a whole… Jenny and I have great pride in trying to make this a huge transformation – the next time we see her – of her abilities.”
‘Captain America: Civil War’ is expected to show teams as they are divided among themselves owing to the fact that the government seeks to exert increased control over superheroes, which may perhaps be a subject that Scarlet Witch supports.
She saw her country, Sokovia, getting wiped out by Ultron, who was created by superheroes. Scarlet Witch may come to a decision that, like Iron Man, she would like a specific person to be held responsible.
‘Captain America: Civil War’ is set to make its premiere on May 6 2016.
