The hit HBO television series "Game of Thrones" does not shy away from controversial topics, nor does it flinch in showing nudity or sex scenes on the small screen.

But one of its biggest stars Emilia Clarke, who plays the "Mother of Dragons" Daenerys Targaryen, who has had her fair share of nude scenes in the show believes that "sex scenes should be more subtle" in films and television shows.

"I'm British, so I cringe at that sort of thing anyway - I can't stand it," the 28 year old actress told the Daily Mail UK. "I don't want to have sex thrown in my face and I've always thought the suggestion is so much more titillating than the act itself."

She agreed to the nude scenes in the beginning of the series because she was just starting out, but two years ago, she refused to appear in any more topless shots and have told "Game of Thrones" bosses that she "wanted to be known for my acting, not my breasts."

"Most sex scenes you see in films or on TV are gratuitous and they're usually just to attract an audience," the actress added. "On screen, the subtler the better."

In an earlier interview, Clarke admitted that her parents had a lot of reservations about her role in "Game of Thrones," and she even told them to skip the first six episodes of season one because they might be overwhelmed with the violence and heavy sexual content her character has to suffer through.

"We sort of didn't talk for a minute during Season 1," she told Empire Online about her parents' reaction.

But the more her character grew in the series, the more her parents' perception changed. Clarke said that her parents are now both "incredibly proud" of her and her mother even likes to call herself the "Grandmother of Dragons."

Despite what she thinks about the nude content of "Game of Thrones," the actress is incredibly grateful for the show because it catapulted her acting career.

"What can you say? A singular TV event transforms you into the girl of the moment, and then the blockbusters come rolling in. Yep, I've been lucky. I'm pinching myself. It's über-surreal," she said. "It's only this season that I've relaxed into what it is."

This year alone, she took on the role of Sarah Connor in "Terminator: Genisys" alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jai Courtney.
