Josh Trank's rebooted "Fantastic Four" film was a sad, sad mess in the box office, so it hardly seems like there would even be a sequel in the works. But movie producer Simon Kinberg remains hopeful that they would still be given a chance to create a better version of "Fantastic Four," since he has big plans on how to develop the characters - particularly Kate Mara's Sue Storm.

Speaking to MTV about the first movie, Kinberg admitted, "I was obviously disappointed. I was most disappointed that fans didn't like it. I care more about them than I do anyone else. But I haven't done a full deep dive on it. Do I think it was unfairly treated? I don't know."

A lot of people are pointing their fingers at the squabble director Trank had with the studio and the producers, but Kinberg likes to think that this is not the case.

"I've been on plenty of happy movies that don't turn out to be very good movies, I've been on a lot of unhappy, difficult sets that turn out to be great movies," he explained. "There was a lot of attention on the process of making that movie. It's hard, when you're making a movie, movies are hard to make. It's just the reality."

Whatever happens in the sequel development though, Kinberg said that he's "really focused on the next one" and they are currently trying to figure "out what that movie would be."

He strongly believes that they have already rounded up a fantastic cast for "Fantastic Four" - Miles Teller plays Reed Richards, Michael B. Jordan plays Johnny Storm, Jamie Bell plays Ben Grimm, and Mara plays Sue Storm. All they need to figure out now is where the characters are headed after they've embraced their super abilities.

"Every time you make a movie, you want to make a great movie. It's a ton of time and effort you put in," said Kinberg. "You're waking up every morning being like, I want to go make a great movie. It was an opportunity to do that. I do believe there is a great 'Fantastic Four' movie that we've made with that cast. So I'm gonna figure out what that is."

As for Mara, she expressed eagerness to do another "Fantastic Four" film despite the dismal reviews the first one received. . "It's unlikely that a sequel will happen, but I would love to do one. I would love to play Sue Storm in a movie that everybody loves. That would be great," she said.
