Development studio Blizzard Entertainment has officially released the opening cinematic trailer for the second and standalone expansion pack to the strategy game "StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty."

In addition, the company also announced that the upcoming game titled "StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void" will arrive in November of this year.

The clip, which is a little over three minutes long, gives viewers a glimpse of the upcoming expansion pack's single-player campaign. It focuses on the story of the Protoss race after being driven out of their home planet Aiur by the Zergs, Forbes reported.

The trailer begins with only a handful of Templars going up against an entire Zerg swarm. It also shows a fan-favorite scenario featuring two Templars merging into one to take on a gigantic Ultralisk. Although the Protoss appear to be overwhelmed by the enemy, a Pylon appears and warps in an entire army of Templars. The clip ends with the army charging towards the advancing Zerg forces.

Blizzard announced through the trailer that "StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void" will arrive on November 10 for the Microsoft Windows and OS X platforms. This date will pit the game against other highly anticipated console titles such as "Fallout 4" and "Rise of the Tomb Raider."

As to what gamers can expect in the upcoming game, "Legacy of the Void" will feature the main character Artanis, who is a high-ranking military commander and Templar for the Protoss. For the game's campaign mode, games must unite the different Protoss tribes in order to form a force strong enough to take on the Zergs.

The alliances forged and units used by the players will dictate the progression of the game's storyline.

"Legacy of the Void" is the third and last expansion pack for "StarCraft II." It will also serve as the conclusion of the sequel's trilogy, according to Engadget.

The first expansion pack of "StarCraft II," titled "Wings of Liberty came out in 2010. It focuses on the story of the Terrans after the events of "StarCraft: Brood War." Its main character is Jim Raynor, a former Terran soldier who became an outlaw and mercenary after being betreayed by Dominion Emperor Valerian Mengsk.

The follow-up pack, "Heart of the Swarm," features Sarah Kerrigan, a former Terran Ghost who was transformed into a human-Zerg hybrid. The game's campaign mode features an alliance between Raynor and Kerrigan as they take on Mengsk's forces.
