Set for a release in 2016, DC’s ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ has officially begun production, and images for Hawkman and Hawkgirl have been revealed online.

Interestingly, the upcoming series brings together numerous DC superheroes that have been well-loved by fans over the years.

Hawkman and Hawkgirl are known to have a distinct storyline that could be challenging to take on due to its different angles. In particular, the two characters have been cursed to become eternal lovers. This means that they will experience continual reincarnation through different ages and should seek each other after every reincarnation.

Named as Carter Hall and Kendra Saunders, these characters are recognized as soulmates who have the ability to extract and utilize the powers of the hawk god Horus, giving them their special capabilities.

While viewers have already seen Hawkgirl’s debut in ‘The Flash’ season one finale, fans have also been thrilled to see the first photos of Kendra with her partner, both fully decked out in their superhero costumes.

The duo is expected to make their first ever appearance together in an ‘Arrow/The Flash’ crossover event that will be carried out this fall, way ahead of the winter premiere of ‘Legends of Tomorrow.’

Executive producer Marc Guggenheim recently discussed the superhero team-up show, describing the upcoming program as the ‘craziest’ TV series he has ever worked on.

In an interview with Comic Book Resources at the CW's summer party for the Television Critics Association last month, Guggenheim opened up about the ways through which ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ can become the wildest DC Comics show he has worked on.

"The show is nuts. It's got time travel and superheroes and super villains. It's a great deal of fun," he said.

Similarly, fellow executive producer Andrew Kreisberg's also shared the same sentiments during the series’ San Diego Comic-Con panel in July.

According to Kreisberg, ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ is basically comprised of "crazy ideas" that they have developed, which were too gripping for either ‘Arrow’ or ‘The Flash.’

"'Legends of Tomorrow,' all it is is the crazy ideas. It's bonkers," the producer told fans.

Fan-favorite characters, such as Sara Lance aka White Canary (Caity Lotz), the Green Arrrow (Stephen Amell) and the Flash (Grant Gustin), will reportedly be featured in the new series. As confirmed by Gustin, his character will have a special role in the first few episodes of the show.

The official premiere date for ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ is yet to be announced.
