A small private plane crashed at sea near Jamaica on Friday after having lost contact with ground controllers during a flight from Rochester, New York, to Naples, Florida.
Although early reports said that there were three passengers on the plane, there have only been two identities that were confirmed, including Larry and Jane Glazer. Larry Glazer was working as a real estate developer in Rochester.
“The Glazers were innovative and generous people who were committed to revitalizing downtown Rochester and making the city they loved a better place for all,” said Andrew Cuomo, Governor of New York. “I offer my deepest condolences to the Glazers’ family and friends during this difficult and trying time.”
“They were personal friends of mine as well as amazing community leaders, philanthropists in so many ways, so this truly is a devastating loss on so many different levels for Rochester,” said Maggie Brooks, the executive of Monroe County.
The Federal Aviation Administration said that ground controllers lost contact with the plane a little over an hour after the plane had departed from the Greater Rochester International Airport in New York.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) said that the reason the plane and the ground control lost contact with one another may be hypoxia, a condition in which a lack of oxygen is reaching the brain.
According to Fox News, another case of an unresponsive airplane also occurred on Saturday. The pilot lost consciousness during the flight until it eventually led to a crash into the Atlantic.
