Yuju Choi and SinB Hwang of GFriend, a South Korean girl group fell nine times during the Hyundai Eco Driving Concert on Saturday, Sept. 5. The video of GFriend’s epic performance went viral worldwide. Yuju and SinB did not give up regardless of the painful falls and instead picked themselves up each time.

GFriend is short for girlfriend. GFriend is composed of six members, Sowon Kim (20), Yerin Jung (19), Eunha Jung (18), Yuju Choi (18), SinB Hwang (17), and Umji Kim (17).

The group was singing “Me Gustas Tu,” a happy love song about mustering up the courage to confess love to someone special. A fan’s recording of the performance showed Yuju falling multiple times while singing and dancing.

As the young women got into formation, a few of them attempted to kick water puddles off the stage. The music began and they danced in sync to a choreographed routine. Although Yuju and SinB fell, they were able to get back into step with the rest of the group members after they picked themselves up.

Yuju and SinB displayed a high level of professionalism as they kept on smiling throughout the entire four minutes they were on stage. They did not cry or stop performing. Instead, the girls persevered through the song and showed determination.

Rather than becoming a laughingstock, the girls became a beacon of inspiration for not giving up. E!News said that Yuju “who keeps falling down will teach you to never give up,” while Time wrote that she “will inspire you to keep going no matter what.”

All of the members were dressed in white dresses and white sneakers. Yuju was easily distinguishable from the rest of the group members because she was wearing a white kneepad on her left leg.

There were times that Yuju fell flat on her face, sideways, and partially slipped on the platform, yet she managed to pick herself back up again. Sometimes her fellow members pulled her up by her arm to help get her back into formation.

Although sounds of laughter could be heard from the video clip, at the end of GFriend’s performance, fans shouted “gwen chana,” which translates in English to “it’s okay!” Concert attendees tried to encourage Yuju by chanting the phrase as GFriend walked off the stage.

GFriend released two extended plays in 2015; ‘Season of Glass’ and ‘Flower Bud.’ They were featured in South Korea TV shows, ‘G Friend! Take Care of My Puppy,’ ‘Her Secret Weapon,’ ‘Weekly Idol,’ ‘Running Man,’ and ‘King of Masked Singer.’
