EXO won the 2015 Artist Award at the 42nd Korea Broadcasting Awards in Seoul, South Korea on Thursday, Sept. 3. Baekhyun Byun, Chanyeol Park, and Suho Kim accepted the award onstage at MBC’s headquarters in Seocho-gu.
Chanyeol, Baekhyun, and Suho bowed to attendees, and introduced themselves as EXO, S.M. Entertainment’s Chinese and South Korean boy band. The K-Pop group released their second studio album, ‘Exodus’ on March 30, 2015.
"We are sincerely so thankful to the Korea Broadcasting Prizes' for this huge award. Lee Soo Man teacher, SM Family, our manager hyungs and staff, our parents, our EXO members, and our EXO-L fans who we love, we sincerely thank you,” said 24-year-old Suho.
"And Korean broadcasting, specifically music show broadcasts, the PDs who work hard from dawn, writers and camera directors, and the staff, we want to share this prize with you all. Thank you. We will always be the hard-working K-pop stars EXO. Thank you!"
EXO’s original twelve members are Suho, Baekhyun, Chanyeol, D.O., Kai, Sehun, Kris, Xiumin, Luhan, Lay, Chen and Tao. The band is made of two subgroups, EXO-K and EXO-M. EXO derives its name from the word, “exoplanet.”
Kris, Luhan, and Tao left the group and filed a lawsuit against S.M. Entertainment. Kris filed suit on the basis of a violation of basic human rights in May 2014. Luhan cited health issues and discrimination in his lawsuit in Oct. 2014. Tao filed sued to terminate his existing contract in Aug. 2015.
The band continues to perform as a nine-member group. EXO won big awards for their first album, ‘XOXO’ in 2013. They won the Disk Daesang at the 28th Golden Disk Awards and Album of the Year at the 15th Mnet Asian Music Awards.
