NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. confirmed that they are not done yet regarding the upcoming updates for "Mortal Kombat X."

According to Ed Boon, director of the popular fighting game series, the latest installment in the "Mortal Kombat" franchise is set to get new content as well as characters through future DLCs.

Boon and the studios, however, remained tight-lipped regarding the specific details of the upcoming content updates. Cinema Blend speculated that the new skins might be designed for other characters from the game's roster such as Kano, Kotal Khan, D'Vorah and Raiden.

As for the new characters, Boon recently tweeted an image depicting four fighters. However, their identities were not revealed since only their smoky silhouettes were shown.

But based on the picture, Screen Rant was able to come up with a list of possible candidates for the playable roster's new additions.

According to the site, the shape of the silhouettes suggests that three of the four characters could be Baraka, Rain and Sindel. These three are already in the game but as non-playable characters.

Although this could be a possibility, it might end up disappointing fans since they are already familiar with the characters' appearances and fighting techniques. In addition, gamers can do a mod on the game that can allow them to access these characters.

But, given NetherRealm and Boon's decisions regarding new characters, the four fighters might not be from the "Mortal Kombat" universe. After all, the studio already introduced Predator from the film series of the same name in the game as a DLC characters. Also, the film-based slasher Jason Vorhees has already made an appearance in "Mortal Kombat X."

Following this trend, NetherRealm Studios could go out of its way to surprise gamers by including other characters from different fictional universes such as DC's The joker. In 2008, game publisher Warner Bros. released a crossover fighting game titled "Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe."

Aside from The Joker, the game featured other famous DC characters such as Lex Luthor, Green Lantern, Deathstroke, The Flash, Superman and Batman.

The future character DLC will most likely be called "Kombat Pack 2" since shortly after the game's release, the first "Kombat Pack" came out and added Vorhees, Tanya, Tremor and Predator to the game's roster.

There are no details yet regarding the pack's release date but according to Warner Bros., it is set to come out sometime during the first six months of 2016, Polygon reported.
