"Resident Evil" fans already know that Capcom is currently working on an HD remake of the zombie-survival game series' prequel, "Resident Evil Zero."
But aside from sporting enhanced visual quality, the remake will also come with a new game mode that will put players in the shoes of Albert Wesker, the famed villain of the series, Cinema Blend reported.
The upcoming game will still carry the same story mode of "Resident Evil Zero." The original game, which came out in November of 2002, features the partner-zapping system which means gamers can use two main characters at the same time.
Through S.T.A.R.S Bravo Team member Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen, a convicted ex-soldier, gamers can switch between characters or take on enemies simultaneously through A.I.
In the remake's new mode, aptly dubbed as Wesker Mode, gamer will still follow the same general storyline but with the villainous character instead of Coen. Like in the original title, gamers will be able to switch between Chambers and Wesker to complete various tasks.
The addition of Wesker as a playable character could provide an interesting game play experience. For one, aside from weapons, the character has supernatural abilities.
Since he has adapted to the Uroboros virus, Wesker has special abilities such as superhuman speed. Also, as seen in the trailer, he can shoot lasers from his eyes to kill the attacking monsters.
Aside from the inclusion of Wesker, Capcom also change the attire of Chambers in the new mode to match the former's dark-colored loadout
As noted by Cinema Blend, the Wesker mode is the first new feature announced by Capcom for the "Resident Evil Zero" HD remake. It is not yet clear if it will be the only new addition or if more fresh features will be added to the project.
"Resident Evil Zero" is expected to be released sometime in early 2016. It will be released for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC platforms as a digital game for $19.99, according to Polygon.
But for fans who want a full zombie-survival experience, they can purchase the physical version of the game bundled with the "Resident Evil" HD remake, which came out in January of this year.
The bundle, dubbed as the "Resident Evil Origins Collection," will come out at the same time as the "Resident Evil Zero" remake. It can be purchased for $39.99.
Bundling the two remakes makes sense for Capcom since the story of "Resident Evil Zero" takes place just days before the events of "Resident Evil," the franchise's first installment.
